The Django Reinhardt legend persists with any number of small combos still seeking to emulate the late maestro and here's another, clarinettist Smith added to the basic trio on several tracks, to advantage. Leader Harris takes the lion's share of the solos, his guitar acoustic of course, and has a fine command of the idiom, the ideas flowing as he ripples through this selection of standards and original pieces, rhythm guitar-and-bass chugging away in support. Even so, I'm far from sure that his Jamie Cullum-like vocals add much value but that's probably just my usual blind spot. The trio's playing is a delight overall, the compositions work well and the group swings, even more so when Smith joins in, this kind of engaging small-scale music feeling as valid as ever. Just right as a takeaway for the band's gigs and nicely done, for sure.
