While not trying to downgrade the artistry of either Humphrey Lyttelton or George Melly, I don't believe that their musical contributions included here quite come under the ‘modernists’ banner, even if on the other hand their approach to life most certainly did. As to the music contained in this slightly perplexing 3CD box: over the past few years there have been a number of similar releases which have all tapped into the same motherlode, so now it's a matter of whether you're seeking particular obscure performances by the orchestras of Tommy Watt (‘The Grasshopper Jump’), Jack Parnell (‘The Golden Striker’), or Dudley Moore's Trio (‘Strictly For The Birds’). That said, just check the contents carefully before handing over the plastic
