Featuring brilliantly inventive arrangements and harmonies so tight you couldn't blow smoke between them, this debut album from a cappella vocal sextet Vive is nothing short of a revelation. Compositionally, texturally, emotionally, on every count it completely seduces the senses. Of many standout moments there's the heart-stopping introduction to Bernstein's ‘Somewhere’, Emily Dankworth's gorgeous lead vocal on ‘Dreams’, the exquisitely sustained final chord of ‘Tabula Rasa’ and – a real treat – singersongwriter Oli Rockberger's guest appearance on his self-penned ‘Show Me’. Presenting material that ranges from spirituals (‘Ezekiel Saw De Wheel’) to pop (‘Kiss From A Rose’) to originals, Vive's arrangements wed the harmonic sophistication and dazzling modulations of Bobby McFerrin's VOCAbuLarieS with the souldrenched sounds of Lewis Taylor. Having already won the prestigious Voice Festival UK Collegiate competition and the Ward Swingle Award in 2013, the really exciting thing about this debut is that, with their collective talents, you feel Vive have more to give.
