Party-hearty Wild Card have been a popular live attraction for a decade. Their sixth release, Cabin 19 Fever, was largely recorded during the Covid lockdowns, but you’d hardly know that from the bright, danceable, funky sheen of the cuts.

As with previous releases, it features a roll-call of hot-blowing talent – including sax-playing guests Binker Golding and Marcus Strickland, Rosie Turton on trombone and Maurice ‘Mobetta’ Brown on trumpet. At the heart of the party throughout is the core trio of guitarist Clément Régert, organist Andrew Noble and drummer Sophie Alloway. Two of the tracks are covers of pop tracks and feature vocals from Imaani: a punchy, energetic take on Peter Gabriel's ‘Mercy Street’ (with some soaring solos from Dennis Rollins on trombone, Graeme Flowers on trumpet and Jim Knight on alto sax) and a version of Toto's ‘Georgy Porgy’. The other eight are credited to French bandleader Régert: the likes of ‘Olympus’ and ‘Copycat’ will have you irresistibly moving your feet.
