Inspired by the Bill Evans album Explorations from 1961, Corea revisits material associated with the late pianist together with originals from each of the band plus two pieces not associated with Evans at all – ‘Hot House’ and ‘Little Rootie Tootie’. In all 19 pieces are reinvestigated by the trio, and include moments of inspiration and astonishing interplay taken from two dozen 90-minute sets that trio played between 4-17 May 2010. Corea seems possessed by boundless energy, his playing never less than excellent and frequently at a level most other pianists can only wonder at. His playing is particularly absorbing on his own ‘Bill Evans’, ‘Rhapsody’ and Monk's ‘Little Rootie Tootie’ which slipped into their repertoire, no doubt because of Corea's long standing fascination with this most enigmatic pianist. Throughout, Corea never surrenders his identity to Evans, remaining resolutely his own man in a project where he combines with perhaps two of the most famous of the (then) surviving Evans trio alumni.
