US vocalist and instrumentalist Curtis Stigers has now amassed quite an impressive discography on Concord Records. Hooray For Love is his eighth album for the label. It also happens to be one of his best. Aside from three originals either written or co-written by Stigers, you've probably heard this particular bunch of songs – ‘Love Is Here To Stay’, ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ – a million times. So what can Stigers possibly add to these Great American Songbook classics? Well there's a pleasing, world-weary quality that he brings to the table, coupled with a lived-in, another-shot-of-Jack-for-the-road timbral quality. There's also a terrific duet, ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’, with the French-born, US-based vocalist Cyrille Aimée (winner of the inaugural Sarah Vaughan Vocal Jazz Competition in 2012). Of the originals, the title track lingers longest in the memory and certainly holds its own in this august company.
