Recorded for RCA Victor in Chicago, Hollywood and New York between 1940 and 1942, at the start of his career, this 4CD set brings together the complete studio recordings made by Sinatra with trombonist Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra. Sinatra completists will note that, in addition to the original master takes issued on 78rpm, the collection adds 14 rare sides and alternate takes which have not previously been issued on a single set and which complete the singer's studio output with Dorsey's orchestra. With first rate arrangements by Sy Oliver, Paul Weston and Axel Stordahl, the set includes classics such as ‘Polka Dots And Moonbeams’, ‘Fools Rush In’, ‘Devil May Care’, ‘Everything Happens To Me’ and ‘Stardust’, with its atmospheric celeste introduction and one of several songs that features vocal group The Pied Pipers. Marking the hundredth anniversary of Sinatra's birth, the fact that the singer achieved his first great success with Dorsey's band and that his phrasing and breath control were influenced by Dorsey's trombone playing highlights the importance of these recordings.
