The first three LP set draws heavily on George Russell's The Jazz Workshop, putting altoist McKusick into stellar company with Art Farmer outstanding, and Bill Evans playing brilliantly on the Cross Section Saxes session. The second set is not quite so dazzling, but still exemplary mid-50s experimental jazz.
