A really signifi cant collection, this draws together the work of France’s fi rst bebop altoist from 1947 to 1954, mainly in small group format, but with a handful of big-band sides modelled on Gillespie’s 1948 visit to Paris, all however displaying his fl uent alto style – almost a hybrid of Konitz and Parker.
