Featuring the talismanic presence of producer Larry Klein, this third album from the US-born, Denmark-based vocalist Indra Rios-Moore serves up a fascinating track list encompassing everything from Duke Ellington and Doc Watson to Pink Floyd and David Bowie. Serving as the perfect curtain raiser, the album jolts to life with the venerably ancient country gospel song, ‘Little Black Train’. Penned by Ellington with lyrics by Irving Mills, and strongly associated with Ella Fitzgerald, ‘Azure’ floats through your consciousness as if in a dream. If ‘Hacia Donde’, penned by the Mexican vocalist Marta Valdes, elicits the most impassioned singing of the date, ‘Blue Railroad Train’ and ‘Your Long Journey’ (the latter most recently recorded by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant) showcases the unusual purity, liquid phrasing and emotional sincerity of Rios-Moore's voice. A magnificent album reaches its high-water mark with a profoundly understated reading of Thomas Bartlett's ‘From Silence’.
