Jacques Loussier had a different idea about ‘standards’ to other jazz musicians in the late 1950s. Celebrating his 80th birthday with a pair of 2-CD collections, we hear firstly pieces from his successful Play Bach period live and the updated, Beyond Bach… leads us to composers such as Chopin and Debussy but the playing and interpretation is tasteful and at a high level.
