Like many RareNoise bands, Jü defy definition, but there's no denying the energy and freedom that underwrites the great swathes of noise that gyre and gimble about this anarchic trio. There's a bit more air about Summa than their 2014 debut Jü Meets Møster that heavily featured the sax monster that is Kjetil, but here he lends his weight to ‘Partir’ alone. As a power trio they're most surefooted on rock outs like ‘Lady Klimax’ with Mészáros referencing everyone from Sharrock to Page; but they can also morph into a Gamelan-ish vibe, as on ‘Socotra’, while ‘Jimma Blue’ is downright meditative, ambling around in a reflective noodle with plenty of scraped cymbals and sound FX straight out of Forbidden Planet. But it's those guitar grind-outs, notably on the pummelling title-track replete with subsonic fuzzed bass that'll give your speakers a serious work out. Should come with a tinnitus warning.
