Hampton's 1953 Franco-American jam session is famous in the annals of Americans in Europe, but now it seems strangely ploddy, only relieved by the vibrant soloing of the leader and trombonist Jimmy Cleveland, neither of them helped by Mezz Mezzrow's tuneless burbling.
