The original CD release of Landgren's meditations about all things moony, starry and generally heavenly was a spanglesome treat. Now it's been swiftly reissued, but also with a DVD of the core quartet. With none of those stellar guests, Galliano, Gadd and Sample et al on board, you may feel a little cheated with the DVD. But actually it's a whole new album in itself. Wollny is given far more room to express himself, and is able to step change between the lustrously romantic and a more ‘out’ attitude that reflects his own trio work. Landgren sings a shade less (but no less movingly), but again there's more room for that melancholy ’bone to moan, as on ‘The Moon's A Harsh Mistress’. But then suddenly he steps on the echo giving us a very different ‘Moonshadow’ from the album version. With the guys all togged up in DJs and gorgeously lit in red and blacks, this could be a fab Valentine's Day treat or Christmas stocking filler.
