Though the covers of the accompanying booklets are almost identical, the four bonus tracks on this public domain release are quite different to the five bonus selections that currently appear on the official Verve label reissue thereby avoiding copyright infringement. The now celebrated 11-night season at Chicago's London House in the summer of 1961 proved to be an undisputed high point in this trio's existence.

From the miles of tapes that documented this booking, five albums of sheer brilliance eventually surfaced. The first seven tracks on this reissue comprised the first vinyl release and proved to be a runaway hit.

It's a given that the bulk of Peterson's vast repertoire was usually made up of standards, show tunes, the occasional bebop classic, but few originals. For many, interest here will be focused on how Oscar and Co approach more contemporary charts as Benny Golson's ‘Whisper Not’ and Bobby Timmons' ‘Moanin” without destroying the mood of the original in a blaze of overindulgence. When possessed of such a formidable technique as Peterson's, it's to his credit that here he controls any would-be excesses to prove he really is a master of his art.

There's no further need to elaborate save to say that this is the trio at the top of their game and while delighting his legion of fans won't disappoint even Peterson's sternest critics.
