Just three months after yet another raucous open air appearance at the annual jazz festival staged at Antibes Juan-les-Pins, Ray returned to Europe with his band now expanded to twice its original number and twice its fire power to commence a tour that kicked off in Zurich. Basically it's the Genius + Soul = Jazz inspired aggregation which along with three Benny Golson originals (‘Along Came Betty’, ‘I Remember Clifford’ and ‘Ray Minor Ray’) also finds room among the jukebox hits for ‘Happy Faces’ (Sonny Stitt) and ‘The Birth Of A Band’ (Quincy Jones). I kid you not, at the time this new squad put Ray Charles in much the same league as The Count, The Duke and The Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band.
