From gurgles and groans, plinks and plonks, ticks and tocks, emerge four tracks recorded in a Stoke Newington church back in 2013. The title is apt, capturing the uncertainty and experimentation of improv. The question also reflects improv's optimism – Will It Sink? would be a very different record – and the press release rightly describes the album as characterised by an “extreme joy in playing and a desire to take chances”. It's an intriguing confluence of players: Liavik Solberg is a key part of Oslo's improvised music scene, and his duo with Russell is already well established. They are joined here by Beresford and Edwards, two other pillars of British improv, both as surprising and engaging as ever. The quartet's electro-acoustic improvisation is the sort of thing that can be more enjoyable live, but it works well on record too – assuming you can get your hands on the limited edition heavy black vinyl.
