This superb twofer presents two complete original albums, Swingin' Easy and At Mister Kelly's, in which Vaughan is backed solely by a piano trio. Devotees of ‘The Divine One’ will doubtless already have Swingin' Easy in their collection. For those who don't, it's one of the greatest of all Vaughan recordings, with incandescent versions of ‘Shulie A Bop’, ‘Lover Man’ and ‘Body and Soul’, a song which had a special significance for Vaughan as she sang it in her professional debut as vocalist and second pianist with the Earl Hines band at the Apollo Theatre in New York in April 1943. Another very intimate date recorded at the supper club on Chicago's Rush Street, At Mister Kelly's includes brilliant versions of ‘Honeysuckle Rose’ and ‘How High the Moon’, plus a number of fine ballads of which ‘Alone’, ‘Embraceable You’, ‘Dancing in the Dark’, and ‘Poor Butterfly’ are all standouts. Bonus tracks, as if any were needed, feature two rare complete broadcasts from the same period.
