The 60-year-old Japanese pianist-composer Satoko Fujii’s Orchestra Tokyo pays tribute to fellow compatriot and saxophonist Masaya Kimura, who passed away in 2014. Fuji’s been dubbed “the Ellington of free jazz” and this recording lives up to that billing with its infusion of original, exotic, yet entirely expressive, ideas.
