By the time Getz left the Verve label to rock up at Columbia he probably felt that he had all but exhausted the bossa nova genre. Seemingly, his new label didn't share his thoughts and so a dozen years after the sax man's unprecedented success with João Gilberto, the two of them were reunited. Pleasant though it may well have been, lightning failed to strike twice, despite half of the programme emanating from the fertile mind of Antonio Carlos Jobim. It wasn't a case of warmed-up leftovers, just that the element of surprise that had graced their first encounter was not in evidence second time around. Further more, previous marital shenanigans meant that Astrud Gilberto was unavailable to repeat her role. In her place Heloisa ‘Mucha’ Buarque De Hollanda was drafted in. As it transpires, it's João Gilberto who handles most of the vocals. Nevertheless, Stan The Man confirmed that he still had the most seductive sound in jazz. And for many that's more than sufficient.
