Hot on the heels of Good Times and The Blues Don't Scare Me, this latest installment from Blue Commotion is the band's third album in two years. Vocalist Zoë Schwarz and guitarist Rob Koral's long-standing musical partnership goes from strength to strength, with this set of 13 originals packing a huge emotional punch. The lapel-grabbing chorus of album opener ‘Angel Of Mercy’ is the perfect scene-setter. A touching tribute to one of the singer's most important touchstones, Billie Holiday, ‘Let's Explain (Blues For Billie)’ is another standout, with excellent solos from Koral, Hammond organist Pete Whittaker and harmonica player Si Genaro. Schwarz's blues wail lights up the barnstorming ‘I No Longer Feel Blue’, while ‘You're Not Alone’ showcases the gentler aspect of the band's music making. Tenor saxist Ian Ellis and trumpeter Andy Urquhart are once again on hand to provide textural variety and punch.
