Portrait of Gregory Porter to be auctioned for charity for Cheltenham Festivals
Monday, August 7, 2023
Earlier this year, emerging artist George Groves was joined by Grammy Award-winning singer songwriter Gregory Porter at an intimate lunch held by Attivo and Cheltenham Jazz Festival, where the two unveiled this Oil Portrait depicting the musical legend
Cheltenham Festivals is now partnering with George Groves to raise funds from the sale of the painting, which Gregory Porter kindly signed on the reverse, for the ‘Relaxed Concert For Schools’; a carefully curated musical programme in a wonderfully supportive atmosphere designed specifically for children who attend SEND (special education and disability needs) settings. Detailed planning undertaken by the festival guarantees an accessible, inclusive and enjoyable visit for everyone who attends.
Porter has performed all over the world, from Glastonbury, and more recently; the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. His 2013 album Liquid Spirit became the most-streamed jazz album of all time. In 2023, Porter was artistic curator of the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. He told Attivo Life Magazine: “I’ve performed there seven times now, and I adore it”.
Groves, who’s also unveiled Portraits alongside the likes of British legends Idris Elba and Tim Peake said: “By auctioning this painting and limited edition print of Gregory Porter, I hope to contribute to this fantastic initiative from Cheltenham Festivals, I know first-hand the healing power that music can have, and knowing this painting and print will support a mission that aims to heal and comfort through art itself, is gratifying to say the least.”
These two very special portraits are now available to own, with 50% of the sale proceeds from the painting and 100% from the signed print going to Relaxed Concert for Schools, which is a Cheltenham Festivals initiative.
