Jazz breaking news: Charles Lloyd unleashes ECM duo album and box set

Master saxophonist Charles Lloyd (pictured left), who turns 75 in March, releases a highly anticipated duo album on ECM today, entitled Hagar’s Song, with his long time pianist Jason Moran, followed by a retrospective 5CD box set later in March as part of ECM’s Old & New Masters Series.

The organisers behind Jazz FM’s Love Supreme Jazz Festival, which runs from 5-7 July at Glynde Place in East Sussex, have just announced that iconic singer Bryan Ferry (pictured left) and his Orchestra will make an exclusive UK debut appearance at the festival, headlining the bill on Saturday 6 July.

Jazz breaking news: Trumpet legend Donald Byrd dies aged 80

It’s been reported that legendary trumpeter Donald Byrd, probably best known in the States for his late-1950s and early-1960s Blue Note groups with Pepper Adams and Duke Pearson as well as his later jazz-funk albums with brothers Larry and Alphonso Mizell, died on Monday aged 80.
