Contemporary Manchester quintet Ilumetris, led by saxophonist and composer Tom Thorp, embark on a UK tour this autumn, in support of their latest album Here, There Be Monsters, a recording for acoustic ensemble on the AMP label.

Originally inspired by an unusual piece of landscape discovered when walking his dog, Thorp developed a body of work based on a wide range of myths and legends from around the world, taking the listener on a journey through the characters, stories and themes of human mythologies, from Celtic legends to the creatures of  the Arabian Nights, Greek mythology and The Mongolian steppe.

Here, There Be Monsters will be bought to life during Ilumetris' series of live shows throughout the UK during October and November. Dates include: Low Four Studios (Manchester, 3 October); Revelation (Ashford, 16 Oct); Bristol BeBop Club (17 Oct); Jazz At St Giles (Oxford, 9 November); Tung, Liverpool (14 Nov); and Zeffirelli's, Ambleside (15 Nov).

A notable reed player proficient on both saxophone and clarinet, Thorp has collaborated with jazz greats including Bob Mintzer,  Pee Wee Ellis and Guy Barker, as well as with pop icons such as Shaun Ryder. His talent is joined on this project by a trusted ensemble of Neil Yates on trumpet and flugelhorn,  Andy Stamatakis-Brown (known for performing with Alice Zawadski) on piano, Grant Russel Russell (formerly of GoGo Penguin) on bass and John Arnesen on drums.

With added spoken word from Professor George Walkden, Here, There Be Monsters charts a  course that is destined to put both Ilumetris and the wider scene of up and coming Manchester jazz creatives firmly on the map.
