Brighton beckons for The Necks and EST

Jazz and world music bookings at the Brighton Festival in May include The Bays and Burnt Sugar (8 May, Concert Hall, Brighton Dome), Abyssinia Infinite Ethiopia (14 May, Gardner Arts Centre), Ibrahim Ferrer (15 May, Concert Hall, Brighton Dome), The Necks (16 May, Pavilion Theatre, Brighton Dome), EST plus Eivind Aarset Trio (18 May, Concert Hall, Brighton Dome) and Harold Budd (21 May, Concert Hall, Brighton Dome).

Tyner time on Tyneside

Three months old the Sage hosted the first Gateshead Jazz Festival with a high profile programme last weekend.

Jazz Aid

A special Jazz Aid 2005 concert including some of the UK's biggest names is planned for The Sands Venue in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire on 30 May to raise money for The Anthony Nolan Trust and Cancer Research UK.

Yorkshire jazz body to launch

Thursday sees the launch in York of a new body called Jazz Yorkshire, an Arts Council backed agency that aims 'to provide musicians, promoters and venues with a one-stop-shop for jazz in the region'.

Magic Time

Van Morrison's new album for Polydor is called Magic Time.

Bull's Head saved

Jazz at the Bull's Head pub in Barnes, west London will continue as the threat of closure has been lifted following a change of heart by the pub's owners.

Derby jazz aces head home

Next month's Derby Jazz Week on 13-17 April has a strong local flavour to its programme.

New beginning for Smalls

Welcome news for New York jazz fans with the announcement that much missed jazz club Smalls is to reopen on 2 March at its original location of 183 W10th Street in Greenwich Village.
