Jazzwise – July 2024
Jazzwise magazine’s July issue is out now and is a Love Supreme Jazz Festival special with legendary drummer Billy Cobham talking Miles, Mahavishnu and beyond in a revealing exclusive interview ahead of his festival headline show. There’s also a ‘lost’ 1980 interview with Cobham, reprinted in the issue, plus a specially curated playlist of his most memorable tracks.
Also in the issue are interviews with NYC tenor titan James Brandon Lewis – who is also on the Love Supreme line-up – and renowned singer Fay Victor, while guitar guru Bill Frisell reveals his musical Turning Point. There’s also a highly personal article by acclaimed jazz writer Val Wilmer on her pen-pal correspondence with some of jazz’s pioneers.
The issue also lifts the lid on the historic 1968 Louis Armstrong BBC concert broadcasts that are set for release; there’s also an Album Interview with former EST drummer Magnus Öström on his stunning new live tribute to Esbjörn Svensson and vocalist Jacqui Dankworth selects the albums she can’t live without in Takes Five.
