Jazzwise – November 2024
The November issue of Jazzwise magazine is an EFG London Jazz Festival special issue and includes an exclusive cover feature with jazz guitar legend Pat Metheny. He plays two nights at the start of the festival performing songs from his new solo album MoonDial.
Other headliners interviewed in the issue include renowned pianist Neil Cowley, rising Greek piano prodigy Tania Giannouli and trumpeter Mark Kavuma reveals the album that changed his musical life in Turning Point. There’s an interview with festival programmer Pelin Opcin who selects some programme highlights from the staggering 350-plus gigs, and there’s also a peak into the newly refurbished Ronnie Scott’s as it gears up for its festival week.
Also in the issue is a special extended archival feature on baritone sax boss Gerry Mulligan, a superstar of the US West Coast jazz scene who worked with both Chet Baker and Dave Brubeck – there’s also a frank and fascinating Lost Interview with Mulligan himself by writer Roy Carr. And Mercury-nominated multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, a.k.a. corto.alto, selects the albums he can’t live without in Takes Five – and Blue Note-signed alto-sax ace Immanuel Wilkins talks about his latest release, Blues Blood.
All this plus the essential new, archive and reissue albums reviewed, plus gig guide, jazz news, live reviews and much more…
